Dead ? Alive ? Or Both ?
Today we will know that whether we are Dead ? Alive ? Or Both ? with the help of a theory ! Lets begin, Schrödinger's cat refers to a thought experiment proposed by physicist Erwin Schrödinger. He used it to show the weirdness of the quantum theory. So, what is the quantum theory then ?, The theory says : “Until a particle is measured and observed, it exists in all the states it could possibly be”. So, if there is a probability that, “Particle A” can be in a state at position “x” it will exist in a different state at position “y” and eventually the particle would exist in all its states ! This is called “Superposition” and when the particle is measured and observed the Superposition collapses and the particle starts to exist in a single state unlike before, then you might say “If this is true then it should apply to larger objects since all matter is made up of particles.”. But of course we know that that does not happen. We observe larger objects occupying only one state.
So, Schrödinger came up with an example or a thought experiment to
be precise involving a cat. Now what he did is, He imagined that the cat is put
in a box with a Radioactive element emitter……which has 50% chance of emitting
the element and killing the cat and on basis of this, for normal thinking
people the answer would be “Either the cat will die or be alive” but common
sense isn’t something that we consider while talking about quantum physics !
Experiments have shown that sub atomic particles behave in strange
ways that we don’t observe in larger matter, And based upon this experiment
there is a theory called as “Multiverse theory” and it explains this experiment
like this : When the cat was in the covered box it was in the superposition of
being both dead and alive at the same time but when the box was uncovered, a
split in the universe occurred and in “Universe A” the cat was alive while in
“Universe B” it was dead !, the implications of this are mind boggling.
Every time there is more than one option in the universe for every
situation, in a universe there might be a case where NASA wasn’t able to reach
the moon or a world where hitler won WW2. A universe where you might be dead or
not been born ! there are many interesting things like this in science, And I
will be trying to understand them and Tell them to you ! So, stay tuned to the
blog…...Bye until next time.
Sayonara !
Good intersting 🙂👍

DeleteVery well written Shreerang.....There is a movie named Coherence based on this idea, maybe you've watched it already....keep writing
ReplyDeleteThank you miss, I'll watch that movie for getting a clearer idea
DeleteIntresting
ReplyDeleteVery well written, keep writing Waiting for next one
ReplyDeleteVery Interesting.
ReplyDeleteThank you !
DeleteWell done Shreerang! The multiverse and the numerous theories surrounding it are really very interesting. I see Madhura miss has already recommended Coherence which is a fantastic sci-fi film. So I would love to recommend a short film named 'Schrodinger's cat' revolving around this theory. It is more of an emotional ride, but dwells very well in the theory. Anyway keep writing. All the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you !
DeleteOut of curiosity I would like to ask, do you really think that the Apollo and Gemini missions were fake? I would love to see your thoughts on that :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, I have heard about those too that the recordings shown as the missions were claimed to be a video shoot in a studio and there were debates based upon the direction of the shadows shown etc......I kinda agree to both that it was real and fake too because, its real bcoz we have the knowledge about the moon and actual humans who visited there as a evidence but the blames done on them are also kind of true....So..... :)
DeleteActually it was bouncing for me 😂, sorry for that. Better I discuss with you and make myself understand ☺️
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your willingness and efforts to analyse such intellectual topic.
Wow! Shreerange Nicely written some of facts were also new for me! Good Job Man!
ReplyDeleteThanks !
DeleteNice...to much information in this small blog
ReplyDeleteNeat.
